The Department of Dermatology and Venereology offers diagnostic and treatment services for the management of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and skin diseases, affecting the anogenital region of the body.
The Department offers treatment of the following diseases:
- Urethritis and its complications in men: balanoposthitis,cavernitis, prostatitis, epidydimitis, stricture.
- Inflammation of the genital tract in women: infections of the vulva and vagina, urethritis, cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease.
- Ulcerations of the external genitalia.
- Enlarged lymph nodes in the groin region.
- Genital warts and human papilloma virus infections of the genitalia.
- Anogenital rashes and itch.
- Anogenital benign and malignant formations.
The process of STD diagnosis involves performance of specific and sensitive tests that prove the causative agent and support the clinical diagnosis.
The Venereology sector of the department is equipped with modern facilities for:
- The Venereology sector of the department is equipped with modern facilities for examination of urethral and vaginal smears on wet mount and Gram-stain slides.
- We perform ultra microscopy of Treponema , examination of urine sediment for Trichomonas and accurate microbiologic diagnosis.
The department performs serological tests for syphilis, HIV, herpes simplex type 1 and 2, hepatitis A,B and C, cytomegalovirus, rubella, etc. DNA and antigen determining tests for Chlamydia, gonorrhea and Mycoplasma are utilized.
Numerous histological and immunohistochemical methods for studying of all anogenital formations are applied.
STD management is etiological and highly specific as the department offers options for hospitalization in first-class accommodation or outpatient treatment.
